Nestled beneath the esteemed Grand Cru Hengst in Wintzenheim, the Clos Häuserer vineyard spans 1.2 hectares of Riesling vines planted by Léonard Humbrecht in 1973. This unique monopole sits atop calcareous bedrock dating back to the Oligocene era, enriched by eroded oolithic limestone from the Vosges mountains. Over time, these ancient pebbles have fused with iron-rich sandstone and marl, forming soils known as conglomerate or coastal limestones—testaments to a bygone sea that sculpted the terrain. The blend of coarse rock and finer marl grants the vineyard exceptional drought resistance and a vibrant mineral profile. Located at the foot of the slope, Clos Häuserer boasts a deeper topsoil with increased marl content, lending its wines an inviting roundness and expressive character, especially in their youth.
Light gold yellow color. The nose shows a precise mineral profile, almost smoky. This little reductive character will disappear quickly with time (or decanting the wine) which suits the profile of this vineyard. The palate is ample, suave and shows a harmonious balance. The old vines bring density and length leaving the taster with a great sense of serenity when drinking this wine. The finish is dry and salivating. This wine can be enjoyed today or forgotten in a good cellar (or both!).
